Sao Serey-Rithy Lorn, MA, LPC, LMFT

Sao Serey-Rithy Lorn is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). He is a Masters graduate from University of Houston - Clear Lake (UHCL). He served as the 2008 to 2009 Vice President of the Family Therapy Student Association (FTSA), an active student organization at UHCL, interested in promoting the common professional interest of marriage and family therapy. Furthermore, he is an active member of the national, state of Texas, and city of Houston professional organizations, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (TAMFT), and Houston Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (HAMFT), respectively.

As a native of Cambodia, who came to the United States as a child in 1980, Sao has the ability to conduct therapy fluently in the English and Khmer (Cambodian) languages. His cultural background and experiences assist him in understanding and becoming effective in working through acculturation, generation gap, socioeconomic status, and immigration issues. He has an interest in working with clients of diverse ethnicities, ages, genders, backgrounds, and situations. His therapeutic approach is collaborative, client-centered, culturally sensitive, and solution, goal, and emotionally-focused, with a family systems therapy basis.

Sao is a child of parent survivors of the deadly Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia in the mid-1970s and is empathetic towards the challenges and difficulties that may arise in families dealing with life/death traumatic experiences, spirituality, and survivor issues. Furthermore, having been a full-time worker and graduate student who chose a career change from Computer Science to Behavioral Science, he is empathetic with life-work balance issues, such as stress/time management, and career transition and satisfaction. Sao Serey-Rithy Lorn has the core goal of empowering individuals and families make positive changes in their professional and personal lives.
