Irma Guerrero

Irma Guerrero is a Marriage and Family Therapy intern from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She is an active student member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapist (AAMFT), a national professional organization. Other professional affiliations include Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (TAMFT) and Houston Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (HAMFT).

As a native of Mexico, who came to the U.S. as a child, Irma can conduct therapy fluently in English and Spanish. Her cultural background has helped Irma understand and become effective in working through acculturation and generation gap issues in families as well as immigration issues. She works with clients of diverse ethnicities, ages, and genders. Her therapeutic approach is collaborative, solution-focused, emotionally focused, family therapy-based, culturally sensitive, and client-centered.

Irma is a young adult cancer survivor, and is empathetic towards the frustrations and challenges that come from dealing with life/death, spirituality, and issues as a survivor of serious illness. She understands the changes that occur with family dynamics as a result of the illness. Such issues may include: patients/caregiver relationships, partner relationships, and parent/child relationships.
